Debating and public speaking

Debating and Public Speaking

Winmalee High School consistently enters four-six teams in the Blue Mountains Debating competition each year. As always, the students are talented and gracious in their efforts and demonstrate an admirable commitment to the preparation and delivery. This competition is open to both public and private secondary schools.

Additionally, the school regularly enters four teams in the Lithgow Festival of Speech, which is a renowned public schools event for secondary schools.

Winmalee also takes part in the Premier’s Debating Challenge organised by the Department of Education’s Arts Unit.

Winmalee students enthusiastically support local primary school debating competitions through adjudication of debates.

Rotary Public Speaking

Each year Winmalee High School students participate in programs organised by Rotary.  One such activity is the 4-Way Test Public Award where students speak about an important issue linked to the ethics guide of Rotary. They also take part in the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) where students debate UN Resolutions taking on the role of various countries.

Students also participate in the Rotary Youth Enrichment Program (RYPEN) where leadership skills, including public speaking, are developed.
