Our school can help with enrolment queries throughout the year.
Local enrolment area
Check your address on School Finder to see if it is within our local intake area. Most schools have designated local enrolment areas. Note: local enrolment areas are subject to change.
How to enrol
If you live in our intake area and would like to apply to enrol at our school, start by submitting an online enrolment application. Online enrolment is currently only available for Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.
If you are not able to apply online or you prefer not to, download the paper application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form. Please complete the form in English. A translated application to enrol may help you do this.
Online enrolment can also be used for out-of-area enrolment. Please note that out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department’s enrolment policy.
Enrolment applications are finalised at the school.

Our school
Winmalee High serves the communities of the mid Blue Mountains. Students travel from nearby townships by train and by bus. Excellent transport links enable students who live some distance from Winmalee itself to attend the school. Parents seeking to enrol their child are always welcome to contact the school enrolment officer for further information.
The school runs Expo Days and Expo Information Evenings each year as a means to provide more information to parents and students that may wish to enrol at Winmalee High School. Details of these events will be released as soon as the school has planned the dates for the following year's enrolment. The principal is happy to answer questions and show parents and carers around the school.
When a student enrols we like to know about his or her interests so that we can help new students to make friends and settle quickly into their new school. Please let us know about skills, interests and abilities of any enrolling student and we will try our best to ensure each student reaches his or her maximum potential. Winmalee High School is a government school serving the public of NSW. The following information explains the rules that we follow.
General principles
The government school system in New South Wales exists to provide high quality education for all students. The Education Reform Act 1990 outlines the legal requirements for schooling.
- Parents may seek to enrol their child in the school of their choice.
- Schools are required to set an enrolment number to cater for anticipated local demand and to seek to ensure that every eligible local child has a place at his or her local school if he or she chooses to attend it.
- The primary criteria for acceptance of non-local enrolments will include the availability of appropriate staff and permanent classroom accommodation.
- The decision on where to enrol a student, and with what level of support, will depend on a number of factors, including a student's educational needs, the expressed desires of parents and caregivers, the capacity of the school to provide the level of support services required and the availability of support services at alternative locations.
Criteria for non-local enrolment applications
Criteria will include the following factors:
- siblings already enrolled at the school
- proximity and access to the school
- access to single-sex education
- medical reasons
- safety and supervision of the student before or after school
- availability of subjects or combination of subjects
- compassionate circumstances
- structure and organisation of the school
- recent change in local intake area boundaries.
International students
Winmalee High School welcomes all international students into its caring school community and has done so for many years. Winmalee High School's international student programme helps international students experience and understand Australian culture, lifestyle and customs. Students with English as their secondary or tertiary language also have the opportunity to expand their vocabulary and communications skills by becoming totally immersed in an English-speaking environment.
