STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
STEM Lunchtime Group
This group runs twice a week and allows students an opportunity to participate in a range of STEM-based competitions and activities such as crystal growing, inventing and robotics construction and problem-solving.
For instance, the FIRST Lego League robotics competition requires students to design and program a robot to solve a number of challenges as well as presenting a proposed solution for a world science-based problem such as waste.
In this group, students are encouraged to follow their own STEM-based interests and to develop their teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Winmalee Makerspace
Our library now includes a Makerspace. This area is designed to encourage students to create and innovate with an emphasis on inclusion.
Students are set challenges and a wide range of resources are available for short to long-term projects including jewellery-making, construction, movie-making and animation, robotics, electronics and 3-d printing.
Activities are likely to include a mix of art, craft, science and engineering and student-led projects are encouraged.
