What is Drama?

Drama students

The Elective Drama course is a practical performance course for interested students. It is designed to develop and enhance performance and technical skills, providing challenges for students with Dramatic talent and particular interest in this area. It also assists students develop a variety of skills for life including team-building, communication and public speaking. This course provides the foundation and continuity necessary for the HSC Drama course.

What does learning look like in Drama?

The objectives of the Drama course are to provide the opportunity for students to express their own views, issues and concerns within a creative framework; writing, performing and producing plays. Many of our students successfully perform in Musicals, Concerts, Drama Festivals and other public performances. Our students are provided with many opportunities including Regional and State Drama Ensembles, Camps, Workshops and Festivals.

Drama Studies – Elective Stage 5 (Years 9-10)

The Junior Drama elective course explores the following topic areas: Elements of Drama, Play Building, Styles of Theatre and Performance and Acting Techniques. Students have the opportunity to interact with professional theatre companies through viewing live performance and participating in practical workshops here within the school. Each year group performs a piece at the Annual Showcase in Term 4 for parents and friends.

Drama Studies  Stage 6 (Years 11-12)

We pride ourselves on strong and consistent HSC results each year which are regularly above state average with many students progressing onto tertiary theatre, music and performing arts education. Many ex-students report that the skills they learnt in Drama have been invaluable in their chosen careers. Preliminary and HSC Drama students have the opportunity to work on their Individual Project (IP) and Group Devised Performance (GDP) as their major works. They will explore topics such as Australian Drama and Theatre, Improvisation Play Building and Acting, and Theatrical Traditions and Styles, as well as elements of production and design.
